While the Code of Ethics establishes enforceable, ethical standards governing the professional conduct of REALTORS®, the Pathways to Professionalism reinforces to all REALTORS® what it means to conduct business with the utmost respect and professionalism. . For REALTORS®, it’s the little things that count the most when making a good impression on clients and business associations.

  • Communicate promptly if you are delayed or must cancel an appointment or showing. If a prospective buyer decides not to view
an occupied home, promptly communicate the situation to the listing broker or the occupant.
  • When showing a property, be responsible for your clients/customers and keep the group together.  Don't leave your clients/customers unattended at a listing.
  • Obtain permission before photographing, videographing, or streaming the interiors or exteriors of properties, or allowing others to do so.
  • Secure property and lockbox and/or return keys promptly. If you think something is amiss (e.g. vandalism), contact the listing broker immediately.
  • Real estate is a reputation business. What you do today may affect your reputation—and business—for years to come.

The Advocacy Scoop is the only podcast that takes you inside the advocacy work of the National Association of REALTORS®.  Now you can stay up to date on what’s happening in Washington, D.C., and around the country, while you’re on the go!

Listen and subscribe where you get your other podcasts.

The Advocacy Scoop, hosted by Chief Advocacy Officer Shannon McGahn and Director of Advocacy Communications Patrick Newton, is dedicated to peeling back the curtain on the advocacy operation of the world's largest trade association. The real estate sector makes up nearly 20% of the entire U.S. economy, and NAR's advocacy work is critical for housing affordability and protecting private property rights. Listeners will walk away with a better understanding of how NAR’s advocacy operation works, its many successes, and how the advocacy team is faring on some of NAR’s biggest legislative fights. Shannon and Patrick will also share insights on the 2024 Election, as well as stories you won’t hear anywhere else.

Your commitment to staying engaged is appreciated!
